1. Nidupchu Lhakhang is one of the 3 Lhakhang’s of Jampa sum (Sewala, Nidupchu and Chorten Nyebu) built by Jamgoen Ngawang Thinley (nephew) for his uncle, Jamgoen Ngawang Gyeltshen (azha) to be reborn back on earth again.

2. According to oral history from lam, Nidupchu lhakhang is a simple two-storied traditional style temple which was built around 16-17th century by Chab je Jamgoen Ngawang Thinley.

3. It is said that when the Jamgoen was meditating and resting, at around 3 am in the morning, a maiden came and requested his eminence to come build a lhakhang on top of a hill. The next day when he went to the hill, he realized that there was a tsho at that particular site and he met the maiden who came in his vision waiting for him, who later came be a tshomen of that tsho. She offered the tsho to Jamgoen where later the Lhakhang was built.

4. The lhakhang currently houses Guru Tshengay lhakhang, Tshenrizhi Lhakhang and Jampa lhakhang on the ground floor, on the first floor is the Goenkhang consisting of Lamai Lhakhang, Nayda Zhida Sumba Gomo and Dorj Chana.

5. Afterwards Nayda Zhida Sumba came to request Nyidu to the Chabje Ngawang Thinley for water and thus took them to a place near the lhakhang where a Drupchu was originated. There after the Lhakhang came to be known as Nidupchu Lhakhang. Currently the water source for the lhakhang and the community comes from there.

6. It is said that on days where the cultivations are flourishing in Punakha, one can see his eminence’s reflection on the water.
