Gomdralo Lhakhang is a site of immense spiritual significance, recognized as one of the Four Draks (Gom Drak, Thukje Drak, Tsechu Drak, and Dechen Drak) and one of the 12 major meditation places of the Drukpa Kagyud saint, Phajo Drugom Zhigpo. According to tradition, while Phajo was meditating at Taktsang, Guru Rinpoche appeared in a vision and instructed him to meditate at these 12 strategic locations to facilitate the spread of Drukpa Kagyud Buddhism in Bhutan. The site was established in 1218 and features an auspicious cave where Phajo meditated. Between 1455 and 1529, Choeje Drukpa Kinley expanded the Drakhang. For generations, the Lhakhang was maintained by the local community, which performed a major renovation and extension from 1982 to 1984. Due to a lack of funds and the need for professional care, the community formally offered the Lhakhang to the Zhung Dratshang in 2019. It remains a vital spiritual hub, hosting various monthly and yearly rituals (such as Phajo Kuchoe) and serving as a residence for several meditators
