The 8th century structure can be considered as one of the oldest Lhakhang in the country. Bhutan has its history of dharma contribution from Tibet and this Lhakhang holds a great significance to it. The Lhakhang is said to be constructed by the Tibetan monk under the command of king Thrisong Detshen who is considered second of the three Dharma kings of Tibet. The Lhakhang has treasures inside which has been said to be discovered at the site. It is enclosing a chorten which has existed long before the Lhakhang was constructed and is still intact perfectly. The Lhakhang also holds a special significance in the community with people of the community coming together to celebrate the festival known as Bonku Tshechu every three years which has helped shape the community’s sociocultural bond.
