In the annual magazine published by Gangteng Buddhist University, Dungkarcholing lhakhang is said to build by Geyshay Ngawang Tshulthrim in the 17th century and even instituted a meditation center. Terton Pema Lingpa’s son Sangdag spread three Choeje namely; Tamshing Choeje, Drophu Choeje and Yakgang choeje. Which, Geyshay Ngawang Tshulthrim was one of the descendants of Yakgang Choeje. Every year on the 7th month of the Bhutanese calendar, they perform three-day Tshechu with mask dances. They invite mask dancers from Yakgang in Mongar. It is said that the masks they have now were all carved by one cow herder in the daytime as per his dream that he had in the night. Today we can see the similarities of masks between Yakgang lhakhang and Dungkarcholing lhakhang as it is said to be donated set of masks by cow herders to mask dancers in return for their service at Dungkarcholing lhakhang every year. In 1932, it is said to be reconstructed as community lhakhang however community faces difficulty in managing the lhakhang when they are busy with farming activities. In the earth female pig year on the 25th day of the 6th month of the Bhutanese calendar, on 25/08/2019 community lhakhang was handed over to the 9th Gangteng Trulku.
