Dzongdrakha Monastery (meaning "fortress at a cliff") was established in 1429 by Drubthop Gonpo Dorji. Following a vision, the Drubthop was sent to find hidden treasures concealed by Guru Rinpoche. Guided by a bear to a cave, he encountered a mute boy who miraculously spoke upon their meeting. The Drubthop eventually discovered a crystal stupa—symbolizing the three realms of existence—after striking a rock with a crystal sword gifted to him in a vision by Guru Rinpoche. The monastery was built to enshrine this sacred treasure and is protected by the deity Damchoen Dorji Legpa. The site is part of the Tshering Cheynga (Five Sisters of Long Life) group of lhakhangs and includes additional altars such as the Temple of Longevity (Tsheringma) and the Jangsarbu Lhakhang. Historically, it is also significant for its connection to the Nenying tradition of Tibet.
